Shorty's Garden Center
A heat wave is coming in HOT. 🥵Even the most drought and sun tolerant plants are going to wish they were chillin’ in the shade. Start watering deeply NOW! Don’t wait until the heat arrives. Here are 3 tips to keep your plants thriving (okay, maybe just surviving) in this crazy heat: ❶ Mulch now to help prevent water loss! (2-3” is best). Water deeply in early morning and twice daily for smaller containers. Pull back the mulch to check for moisture underneath before watering... plants often wilt in mid-day to reduce water evapo. But don’t necessarily need hydration! ❷ Pay extra attention to new plantings, hanging baskets and container planting. They’ll likely be the first to show signs of stress and need extra attention. Put up some temporary shade and consider taking down hanging baskets in direct sun. They dry out much less quickly when sitting on the ground.❸ Expect some damage once this passes, prune away burned foliage and fertilize. As always, reach out with questions! We’re here to help! ...
